Ban On Selling, Exporting Shark Fins Closer To Passing In Florida - WJCT
On Tuesday of this week, Senate bill SB680 to end the shark fin trade in Florida, passed the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee unanimously! Thank you to the Senate sponsors, Travis Hutson and Joe Gruters. “I wish they would have done that 10 years ago,” Our Executive Director, Stefanie Brendl said. “This whole finning issue and fin trade issue has existed and been ringing alarm bells for 20 years… Just because you're making money off the product is not a justification why we should keep doing it. I'm sure that lots of people made money off of selling ivory. But we would never use that as a justification to keep supporting the trade.”
