About a month ago, we received an email from Lucas’ mom about his efforts to help stop finning and save sharks. Lucas, at just 13 years old, took matters into his own hands. He designed and created a t-shirt to donate proceeds and raise awareness surrounding the issue near and dear to his heart. He set his goal to raise $1,000 and guess what, he did it! We are in awe of your hard work and passion, Lucas! Thank you for having a voice for sharks. You can follow Lucas on Facebook at @sharksaremisunderstood.

Here are some words by our Ally, Lucas:

“My name is Lucas Dietzler. I got the idea for my shark shirts during Christmas time because I wanted to get a custom-made shirt for myself. Then after more thought I came up with an idea to sell some shirts to a few people and it got bigger each time I sent an order. I was very thrilled each and every time I got a new order for more shirts. Now I have many different colors and types of shirts and I am very happy to introduce my shirts to Shark Allies in hope to expand it even more. I spent a lot of time researching and looking for a good organization to donate to and when I saw No Fin Florida I knew that was it.

I love sharks because I’ve always had an interest in them and I like how they run the whole ocean and keep it in balance. I decided I wanted to help sharks because I knew that many sharks are dying and I was doing nothing even though I loved sharks. I decided the best way to save sharks is to ban finning because it was the main reason for humans to kill them. I hope other countries that fin trading is legal follow Shark Allies footsteps to ban finning.”
