We've been talking about shark squalene (liver oil) for some time now, mostly in regards to it's use in available influenza vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines in development. The pharmaceutical industry has asked why we are focusing on a fraction of the problem (them), pointing fingers at the cosmetics industry. Truth is, we must address each offender so we don't keep going in circles. 1 shark killed is too many.

Starting tomorrow, Monday February 22nd, we have planned a week of nothing but content surrounding the cosmetics industry's use of shark-derived squalene. Called out over a decade ago for their unsustainable practices by many peers, some cosmetics companies are already making a point to come on the right side of ocean conservation, as there are countless alternatives on the market. This week, we will highlight the good guys, the bad guys, and everything in between. Rounding out the week, Shark Allies' @laurelirv will host an in-depth discussion with a dear friend, Candice Allgood of Shark Week. Candice has been instrumental in Shark Allies initiatives surrounding cosmetics, so we are excited to take a deep dive into her trials and tribulations when approaching companies. More details to come!
