#StopFinningEU ACTION ALERTS:

We are currently in a holding pattern while the EU Commission is going through the process of impact assessments. The results of the assessment will determine what solution they propose to the Parliament. The hope is that they will conclude that trade legislation to end the trade is the best path forward, but they could also decide to adjust current fisheries rules, do nothing at all.
The #StopFinning-Stop the Trade Coalition members continue to work on keeping this at the forefront of the Commissions agenda and are introducing new Parliamentarians to the topic. Because of the EU elections in 2024, many of the representatives have changed.
The best action anyone can take right now is to contact their Representatives and ask them to support the initiative.
European CITIZENS: CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES
You can write letters to your country’s representatives in the Parliament (MEPs, Members of Parliament), expressing your support for the European Shark Fin Trade campaign. The best thing we can all do is to move in unison and stick to the points that matter. Read more about the key points here. Please treat the MEPs with respect. The ECI and our team have been welcomed in Brussels, and we are getting a lot of support. Let’s keep it that way!
Please be polite to all Commissioners: They are deciding the fate of this campaign and we want our community to be helpful and supportive. We will let you know when officials need to be addressed in a more demanding way.
The key message: “Sharks are highly threatened by the shark fin trade. Please take action by supporting the requests of 1.1 million European citizens who gave their vote for a #FinBanNow in the EU, and protect biodiversity.”
Stay tuned to our social pages (@SharkAllies) and those of the campaign (@stopfinningEU) for updates and calls to action.
